ONE PIECE BOWLS

One Piece bowls, as the name implies, are bowls made from a single piece of wood. Often, this wood is harvested from trees that were cut down, or knocked down in a storm. It’s not uncommon to find wood like this lying on the side of the road. This is the best kind of wood because: it’s free, and using it to make art is saving it from rotting or becoming firewood. However, this type of wood take a very long time (typically many years) before it is dried sufficiently to make a finished bowl.  Other bowls are made from blocks of wood that have been kiln dried. In both cases, the wood is turned, sanded, then finished using a food-safe finish.
