VASES, BOXES & URNS

Vases are typically tall, narrow vessels that are open at the top, and often are used to hold flowers. The vases shown here can’t be used for real flowers because the insides of the vases aren’t sealed, and water would ruin them. These vases are intended for show, not to be functionality. If you want to put flowers in them, fake flowers are the way to go!

Urns are closed vessels, usually used for storing items that need to be protected. Many of the urns Tom makes are for storing loved one’s ashes. Urns are available in many different sizes. Making an urn that is large enough to hold a person’s ashes is tough, since it requires a very large piece of wood, and large pieces of exotic wood are extremely rare, and extremely expensive. So the only really large urns Tom makes are from domestic woods, such as Cherry or Maple. Therefore, most of the urns Tom makes are in the small or medium size range. Often families choose to buy several smaller urns, so they can split the ashes and share them among several family members. Smaller urns are also common for storing pet’s ashes. Others are used as decorations. In all cases, the urns are finished with several coats of wipe-on polyurethane, to provide a durable finish that should last an extremely long time.
